The first generation Audi A4 model shared its new B5 platform with the Volkswagen Passat and made its world debut in 1994. The model was initially offered in a saloon/sedan body configuration and featured a standard front-wheel-drive system.
Apart from a wide range of petrol and gasoline engines, this new model was also equipped with a Porsche-developed Tiptronic gearbox. In 1998, the Audi A4 sedan underwent its first facelift - presented at the 1997 Frankfurt Auto Show - featuring a newly-developed 2.8L V6 engine, a all-new 2.5 L V6 TDI with standard 'quattro' permanent all-wheel-drive and slight changes to car's exterior design: redesigned front & rear light, as well as revised door handles.
